Navigating School

Some children benefit from additional support to thrive in an academic setting. This support can take many forms and can be introduced at various points in their academic career. In the United States, there are several laws that ensure that all children are guaranteed access to free and appropriate education. Special education and support services can include an Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP), a 504, at risk services, RTI interventions, or an Individualized Education Program (IEP). Occupational therapists are one of the special education team members that are versed and trained in supporting and implementing these various academic therapeutic interventions. On this this page we hope to provide you with additional clarity, support, information, and suggestions on how to navigate your rights as a parent, and your child’s rights as a student within the school setting.
