Home Modification
Occupational therapists have education in many different areas such as the anatomy of the body, ergonomics to prevent injuries, recommending and teaching individuals how to use various types of technology, and even creating devices that make tasks easier and more accessible. One of the best ways to support a child through acquiring daily living skills, following routines, and developing independence with task completion is to set up their environment for success. Home modifications can range from changing the type of lightbulb in your child’s desk lamp, to re-organizing your child’s toys, to adjusting the height of your child’s desk. On this page we hope to provide you with suggestions on how to modify your home, create “low tech” devices, and suggest products that can enable your child to have more independence with using and accessing the necessary tools in their environment.
